I have Texas is the Reason's "If It's Here When We Get Back It's Ours" stuck in my head. There are worse things.
Tickets to the Roots have been secured for both nights at Washington DC's lovely 9:30. A good time will be had by all.

Tragedy avoided! Netscape is good to go. Apparently I was having cookie problems. When other sites I frequent wouldn't recognize me, I took a look at my cookies and they sure were screwed up. A simple copy and paste cookies.txt from another profile and everything is fine. Just in case you were worried or anything.

I know I'm probably one of the few people in the world who use Netscape for Windows these days, but does anybody think it's weird that I can't view anything ending in netscape.com with Netscape? I keep getting this message "Your browser sent a message this server could not understand." What's up with that? Weird. Maybe it's time to switch to IE and Eudora because I sure as hell won't use Outlook. The problem is I so love Netscape. Really I do. I love all the little features it has that IE doesn't. I like the "Get Page Info" feature. I like being able to right click something in frames and have the trusty "Open frame in New Window" option be right there. *sigh* There is always Opera I suppose. What's that? No, I don't have a life, thank you.

Went to a "farewell" party for Logan Hicks. I don't personally know Logan and actually met him for the first time last night. I went with Krsna-kirtana who has been colaborating with him, as have Pat and Billy. Logan has brought a lot of artists together in the Baltimore area and hopefully those artists will stay together and continue to grow something here now that he is leaving for San Diego to hook up with Shep. Logan will be missed in Baltimore as apparent by the number of people that were at the party. Talking a lot to Pat, who despite being a little on the tipsy side, was on point. We talked of art, the web and music. It was inspiring to be in contact with so many artists and conversing about what everybody was into individually and collectively. I'm hoping to channel some of the that inspiration here. Some? Make it all.
Otherwise, it has been a lazy weekend. Well, I have been working on stuff so maybe lazy is the wrong term.
OH. My. God. Spooky. (via Narottama)

Went to the ATM to fund a snack. I get up to the ATM and it starts beeping at me and I haven't even put my card in yet. "WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE ANOTHER TRANSACTION? YES/NO." I could have soaked this person who left their account wide open, but without so much as checking the balance of their account, I pushed "NO" and gave the card to teller.

So at around 9:35 am, here is the jist of my day.
- Wake up in pain throughout the night and early morning = no real sleep at all.
- Scraping the laundry barrel.
- Go to the parking lot at work and slide my card in the thingie (yes, that is a technical term) and the arm opens, I start to proceed through and the arm suddenly closes half way and I'm stuck. Luckily, I back up a bit and it reopens without difficulty.
- It's raining and step into a large puddle thus soaking my foot.
- Remembering making an ass out of myself last night. (Note to self: Never go over a girl's house when you are being quite manic.)
From last night (while I'm online):
Ed: Do you talk with him regularly?
Me: No, not at all. Usually, just this girl from Michigan.
Ed: That's too bad. He's cute.

Paid an impromptu visit to Heather tonight. Shared some tasty ice cream treats. I was kind of manic. Yes, I made a fool out of myself...again. I'm sure by now you've come to expect nothing less from me. Ed had so many issues today he needed a magazine rack. This storm came, Ed started losing it. He hates storms, especially electrical ones. We were there a half-hour maybe. Still, it was good to see Heather.

Got the new Sinéad O'Connor, Dilated Peoples and Jurassic 5 yesterday. I am very pleased after a quick listen to them all.
It's Wednesday, and that means new comics day. For those uninitiated, new music comes out on Tuesdays and new comicbooks come out on Wednesdays. Off to see Rusty.

Incensed by Scent
The Scented Product Education and Information Association of Canada has finally decided enough is enough. The case of a 17-year-old student -- arrested in April for consistently flouting the strict ban on public perfume-wearing in Halifax, Nova Scotia -- has galvanized the trade group into lobbying to overturn the 1996 bylaw. The student, though not charged, was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and expelled for two days after a teacher complained his fragrances made her physically ill. SPEIAC plans a PR campaign to address "the appalling lack of accurate information on the subject." The ban is applied at all public locations, including mass transit, schools, and hospitals. City officials say it was designed to prevent illness caused by allergies. (from wired)

Saw Shaft last night. Had to be done. Was it as good as the original? Nope. Was it good? Yes. Was it earth-shattering? Nope. The good news is this isn't the Shaft everone knows. It's his nephew of the same name. While suave, Shaft is not the ladies' man that Uncle John, the original Shaft, was and is. Shaft gets no play in this movie but Uncle John is the one who walks out of the bar with two beautiful, young ladies on his arms. Definitely not as sexy of movie as the original. Samuel L. Jackson (who was also mysteriously in The Return of Superfly) was indeed "the Man", but Jeffrey Wright was brilliant as Peoples Hernandez, the bad guy. Toni Collette is vastly under used as an actress. Christian Bale's character was left undeveloped in some ways. Ed swears that Christian Bale used to be in gay porn movies. Busta Rhymes played himself or Jar Jar Binks, same difference. Hey, Busta! Act or stick to rocking the mic! HOO-HA! Richard Roundtree does the job as the wiser, been-there-done-that Uncle John the original Shaft. And who can forget the cameo by Lawrence "Coked Out" Taylor? The ending was a bit unexpected, but works. Rumor has it that people are up in arms saying the movie has no heroes, makes latinos villianous, whites stupid and blacks hip and cool. What to do? I will give this movie credit, It did exactly what it set out to do. It wasn't trying to be this brilliant, thought provoking film. It was Shaft and it did deliver 10 time out of 10. Nuff said.
With the success of Shaft are remakes of Dolemite and Superfly far behind? We'll see, but in all honesty, I'd rather see remakes of those than a sequel to the new Shaft. And as tired as these 60s/70s/80s remakes are getting (Flintstones, Lost in Space, Rocky and Bullwinkle...can F-Troop be far behind?), I certainly wouldn't mind a remake of Our Man Flint. That would be aces.

For the three people who read this, I'm sure you've noticed a lack of new things on utbod.com. Well, there is a reason for it: I'm a lazy bum. Actually, there's more to it than that. I kind of don't want to do anything with this until I have the redesign done. Said redesign is being worked on at a snail's pace mind you.
Friday night, I went to see Hot Rod Circuit at the Ottobar. My friend Mike Poorman had just recently joined the band after 2+ years with the Shyness Clinic. They played with Dirty Snachez and the High School Hellcats and one or two other bands. The HSHCs were an interesting all girl three piece. From what my untrained eye could see: young, inexperienced and, they would probably beat me up if they heard this, cute. It was good to see Mr. Poorman, who looked a little fatigued. People were really into HRC.
Saturday, I went to New York for the second weekend in a row. Last weekend, there was Ratha-Yatra, the Hare Krishna parade down 5th Avenue, and this past weekend was a shin dig that my friend Lalita-Madhava had at his parents'. This past December, LM moved to Ireland and just recently got married, so he's in the States doing the family and freinds thing with his lovely wife, Gopi Manjari. I got to NYC around 12:30 pm and miraculously found a parking spot on 80th Street, right around the corner from his parents' building. His parents live in a swanky part of NYC across the street from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Since I was early by about two hours, I killed some time at the Met. I checked out the Greek and Roman statues, the Egyptian, Shinto stuff and Modern Design exhibits. You could live in the Met for a month and still not see everything. The place is HUGE and at the bargain price of $10. Eventually made it to LM's parents' where a good time was had by all, though I think LM's mom started buggin out when her friends left and was left with young people that were Hare Krishnas and/or had tattoos. You know how moms can be.
Kerroo now has a message board. "Chat it up."
Currently: Mulling a bit at work. Desiring the new Sinéad O'Connor, Dilated Peoples and Jurassic 5. Wishing for better times. Boston.
