About a week ago I was listening to a record that reminded me of an old friend, Alex Femiak. Like most people after school we slowly went on with our own lives and drifted. Last I heard, which was almost two years ago, he moved from Connecticut to Vermont. Inspired, I find a number for him after a quick search on the internet. I called it and an answering machine came on with one of those mechanical voices. I leave a message not sure if it's his number anymore. A few days later, I check my voice mail and there he is returning my call.

Following his instructions to give him a call on the weekend, I called him tonight. At first I thought he answered the phones and was just screening his calls. It turned out to be another high school friend Todd Mendes. After clearing up my sutpid mix up, we talked for about two hours on all sorts of topics ranging from Naugatuck and Kathy Hiotakis, to capitalism and realtionships. I couldn't remember the last time I talked to Todd. When I moved half way through my junior year of high school from Flint, Michigan to Naugatuck, Connecticut, Todd was in my US History class and sat right across from me. First of all Todd, without a doubt, is one smart motherfucker. Far smarter than myself. He perceives things that few do. He has a tendecy to see at the root or heart of things. Instead of getting a job at the local supermarket or going to college, Todd decided he wanted to do something a little more concrete. He went and studied carpentry for a year and then studied woodworking for two years. He essentially became an artisan. He knows his craft and knows it well. Granted I have never seen his work, but it wouldn't surprise me and they way he spoke of it, well... you could just tell.

Sorry. I tried to finish this entry right after the phone call. Unfortunately we got off at a late hour. I started to write this and I was too tired to finish. I told myself that I would finish it the next. That didn't happen (obviously). Then I tried the next day. Nothing. Then, well, you get the picture. Soon, I was forgetting the details of our conversation that I wanted to write about. Anyway, maybe someday soon I will finish this. At any rate, Todd Mendes is a good guy. He's a thinker, an individual and true to himself. Wouldn't we all like to be like that?

Sing It
So Eminem didn't win a Grammy for best album, and the uptight world can breathe a sigh of relief. That honor went instead to Steely Dan, the veteran rockers, who won for Two Against Nature. But before Lynne Cheney and her friends get too smug, consider this: The lyrics to that album's main cut, Cousin Dupree, smack of both incest and pedophilia. Here's a sample: "From the comfort of my Aunt Faye's couch/When I see my little cousin Janine walk in/All I could say was ow-ow-ouch/Honey how you've grown/Like a rose/Well we used to play/When we were three/How about a kiss for your cousin Dupree." Regular folk just can't catch a break these days, it seems.

Sometimes I get worn down.

I'm just going to come right out and say it. I want Eminem to win it all.

A Saturday that has been both a combination of productivity and laziness. Started out well cleaning and some other stuff, but soon fell into my old ways. Too busy trying to figure out wha to do instead of actually doing something. Thinking, "Oh. I'll call up so-and-so and we can hang out and spend the day together. That will be fun. That will be great." I then quickly realize that so-and-so doesn't live on this side of things. *sigh* Foiled again.

Fighting the urge to go buy cds and records. Seems silly, actually. There is nothing I'm really dying to get. The past few times I went out to the record shops, I wandered aimlessly through the bins, seeing things that are novel or hold some interest, but never really, you know... do it. I want to discover something new. Not just in terms of cds and records, but in terms of life.

So what's been going on, other than laying low? Not a whole for me personally, just kind of busy. In the world? A whole bunch of stuff - some important, some trivial.

  • Earthquakes in Gujarat.
  • Pyra meltdown. Call this one a dead horse.
  • Bloggies and Anti-Bloggies. Ugh.
  • Bonsaikitten.com. Didn't find this paticularly funny. FBI must be bored.
  • Wanting to do things different and better, but not knowing how.
  • Thinking that Matt Haughey is a really smart guy.
  • My trusty pc is not being so trusty anymore. One hard drive - dead. One floppy drive - dead. Seriously need to start thinking about a replacement.
  • The problem with my dsl set up mention here, was solved the next day. Thanks for all of your wise-ass comments. It was the cables, dick.
  • Finding it humorous that I am being misquoted on some websites that won't even be mentioned here. Ever.

Sneaky. Sneaky. Sneaky.

For my fan base of two: it's all back. Nothing new of course, except the archives are up. It's sunny and almost 50 degress in Beantown today. 50 mph winds, too.
