Fuck. It. All.

Tonight Jerry stopped by to help me test some things out on the TAC Scorpion. Jerry has the exact same model courtesy of our alma mater. Jerry overhauled his and made some modifications on his own, so he's pretty familiar with this model. We (or Jerry) quickly came to the conclusion that the power supply was the culprit. It was producing a very weak signal and no phantom power to the board. We opened it up to take a look. One resistor was charred beyond belief. If that resistor was a person's burned corpse, not even dental records could have helped you identify the body. Looking at the power supply we determined the previous owner made some *ahem* modifications. Or they just beat the hell out of it. Jerry figured that if we replaced about four or five capacitors and the charbroiled resistor that everything should fine. Action and adventure on a Tuesday night.

Today I bought the new Chemical Brothers and the new Mary J. Blige. I am enjoying them both very much, thank you.

Today is supposed to be another beautiful day. It may even be in the 60s! I have been enjoying the weather and have been taking advantage of it by walking to and from work these past few days. It takes me about an hour to get there; about the same time it does by taking the T on the average. Tomorrow is supposed to bring slightly colder weather and the next is supposed to be snow and/or rain. Get out while you can.

Waffles were definitely in my future this morning.

I spent the whole day today walking. It was a beautiful day. Unseasonably mild as the meteorologists on television would say.

Yesterday, after moving Natetrain's drums to the practice space, Natetrain, Trivikrama and I went over to the kind of crappy used music store. I ended up buying a TAC Scorpion console (16x8x2) for under $500. It's kind of cool and weird.

Strange dreams about strange people last night.

I'm feeling that waffles are in my future this morning.

Today was strange. Nothing bad or anything, just strange.

Things were said today that made me feel uncomfortable, that made me feel kind of bad. They were things that weren't about me and had nothing to do with me at all, really. They made me feel bad anyway. I kept telling myself that it was stupid to be upset at such talk. I told myself that such talk shouldn't make me feel bad. I didn't listen.

After work today I didn't know what to do with myself as usual. I just walked. I walked all over the place for hours. Visting records stores, book stores... All kinds of stores. I ended up at the Brattle where I saw Donnie Darko. A very strange and enjoyable film. Thumbs up. The website is great too.

I came home to find that my copy of Wish for Something Better, the explodingdog.com book had arrived. I am very pleased.

I got tickets to see the Gorillaz today. Very happy about that despite not knowing who I will go with and the possibility that I might not be able to go at all.

Oh. And Casey Davis loves Corky. Don't let her tell you any different.

And Mariah Carey is outta there! And after only one record with EMI/Virgin! Talk about lack of faith. This has been rumored for months now. First the breakdown. Then the flop album that coincided with the flop movie. What's next for Pariah Scarey? Maybe this will teach her to sing in frequencies that humans can hear.

And as much as I hate to admit it, I want to see this movie.

Funny how some times a movie can make you feel better. I guess that's escapism for you. The only thing better would have been someone to share it with. Or putting Audrey Tautou in your pocket and taking her home.

What's that smell? Could it be the possibility of everything turning to shit lurking around the corner? Maybe. Let you know more as it happens.

So what if I went to work today only to be told by the security guard that along with no classes it is also paid holiday for staff? So what? Like I'm supposed to know those things.

There's nothing worse than buying cd to replace one you've lost and not have it playback right on your computer that just happens to double as your stereo, but plays just fine on regular cd players so the store won't take it back.

Bad news today. A phone call to my dad brings me the news of my brother and his wife. They were expected twin girls this spring only to find out recently that the twins' Chromosome 18 is defective. The doctor is recommending terminating the pregnancy as something like 99% of babies with a defective chromosome 18 die at birth. I'm not exactly sure what chromosome 18 is respsonsible for, but here here is a list of disorders associated with it. Here is a list of genes also associated by chromosome 18.

In not-so-bad-news, I've been breaking a lot of keys lately. Well, maybe not a lot. Okay, two keys. Last weekend I was coming home from the laundramat and my key snapped right in the lock and I couldn't get the broken part out. Luckily one of my roommates was home and let me in. I ended up running to Home Depot to replace the lock figurig it was cheaper than to get a locksmith to remove the broken key (especially on a Sunday). Just a few days ago I was coming home from work and the same thing happened. Luckily I was able to get the broken part of the key out. My roommate posed the theory that I was manifesting latent super powers. Perhaps I thought, after all that's how things start out in the comicbooks. I am currently thinking up ideas for my costume. Any suggestions will be considered. But a word to the wise: No capes!

Currently toying with the idea of using one of the many digital cameras at work to post daily random pictures on the site. Thoughts?

Personals
IMing with a friend when she tells me that she's writing her personal. I got to check it out and started looking at others mainly out of amusement.

  • Most Clever Repsonse to the "Best (or worst) lie I've ever told" Question:
"It's not you, it's me." Sounds familiar.
  • Response to the "Favorite on-screen sex scene" Question Most Often Given:
Lloyd and Diane in Say Anything. Hmm... *shrug*

Grilled Cheese and 2001
blahgirlx: mm. grilled cheese!
blahgirlx: i didn't wrap up the year, like everyone else. i don't even know how.
ryanck13: pepper jack cheese with a slice of tomato no less!
ryanck13: neither did i or even feel i should. this was a cop out to not having anything else to say.
blahgirlx: although some of my favorite albums would have to include: stereolab's new one, rebecca gates, josie, pete yorn & stephen malkmus
blahgirlx: hmm!

Um... Hi.

I guess this will be the first real post of 2002. Try to contain your excitement. No. Really. Right. Usually what happens at these type of things people talk about things that happened within the confines of 2001 make lists and that sort of thing. I suppose this entry will be no different.

What 2001 was.
Still with me? Nice! 2001 wasn't the best year in many ways obvious and not so obivous. Anyhoo...

Recordings. I don't know if these were the best records that came out this year, but the ones I seemed to like. I'm sure that this list looks like a lot of other people's. I never claimed to be original.

  • Aesop Rock - Labor Days (Def Jux)
  • Bjork - Vespertine (Elektra)
  • Fugazi - The Argument (Dischord)
  • Gorillaz - Gorillaz (EMI)
  • Josie & the Pussycats Soundtrack (Epic)
  • Ladytron - 604 (Emperor Norton)
  • New End Original - Thriller (Jade Tree)
  • Owls - Owls (Jade Tree)
  • Radiohead - Amnesiac (Capitol)
  • Rival Schools - United By Fate (Island Def Jam)
  • The White Stripes - White Blood Cells (Sympathy for the Record Industry)

Literature. I'm not much a reader (especially of books) and it shows. That's something I hope to change in 2002. Here's things I did read and thought they were great.

  • 100 Bullets by Brian Azzarello with Eduardo Risso (DC Comics)
  • Alias by Brian Michael Bendis with Michael Gaydos (Marvel Comics)
  • Dance of Days by Mark Anderson and Mark Jenkins (Soft Skull Press)
  • Powers by Brian Michael Bendis with Michael Avon Oeming (Image Comics)
  • Vaisnava Compassion by Satsvarupa dasa Goswami (GN Press)

What I want 2002 to be.
To quote Ian MacKaye, "You no longer are waiting for the moments to come to you. You're out there going to the moments."

Goals for 2002. I'm not going to call these resolutions.

  • Get on top of that whole spiritual life thing.
  • Get fit physically. Or at least get some flexibility back in this body. Yoga? Maybe.
  • Clean room. My room has not been clean since I moved back to Beantown in September of 2000!
  • Read more books. Or just read period.
  • Write more. Not just blogging. A real journal? Perhaps.
  • Be wiser with my money.Ha!
  • Stop being a jerk. At least try.
  • Play nice with others. At least try.
  • Don't kill self or others. At least try.

I've been reading David Sedaris' Me Talk Pretty One Day which I received from my sister. A mixed bag reaction. At first I thought it just sucked. Then I thought it was actually funny. Now I'm not sure.

I saw Lord of the Rings New Year's Eve afternoon because I had nothing better to do. I think I need to see it again at a better theatre because I wasn't blown away like everyone else. I thought it was good, but maybe I should see it again.

I need a new pair of shoes. Suggestions?

Unlike some people, I think the new iMac is keen.

I use Mac OS X about 95% of the time now.

Other than that, lately I've been spending a lot of time working and for some reason have been eating grilled cheese sandwiches like a mad man.

Ah. Apparently you have to download and install the Apple OS X Developer Tools for stuff like gcc and make.
22:23 | link |

Blogging from Mac OS X 10.1 that I just installed. Pretty cool stuff and definitely a step up from X 10.0. Now if I can figure out why there's no typical UNIX commands like gcc or make to be found anywhere on this thing. What's the point of building on top of UNIX if you can do anything UNIXy?
